2Bop began when the futuristic fantasy realms of bootleg arcade games converged with the manufactured landscapes of apartheid era South Africa inside the young imagination of founder Anthony Smith.

During that time there was less than little on offer in terms of exposure to cutting edge international design or computer technology in the disenfranchised reality he grew up in but the arcade games that used twenty cent pieces (a 2Bop) to play at the corner shop were a window into what was happening in the outside world.

Fuelled by those glimpses,  Smith set out to make real what his immediate world witheld; the opportunity to explore beyond those limitations and create something...else.

Every piece of apparel that 2bop has made since its inception in 2004, by hand and in house, is the result of that exploration.  Today the 2bop team; Ulfah Davids designer, Andre Bird production manager and Smith, are positioned to grow exponentially in a global streetwear market that is only beginning to tap into the abundant talent, innovative design and ethical manufacturing potential of Cape Town.
